Imogene Pass, Ouray Colorado

Amongst the drivable passes in Colorado, Imogene Pass is one of the most exhilarating drives one can take. It is the second-highest amongst drivable passes in Colorado. The route passes throughTomboy Townsite, which was once a very vibrant mining town in the state. You will find plenty of mining debris scattered all over the course, most of it on private property.

  • Tip
  • It is dangerous to explore the debris. Please stay away from it.

The trail is often concealed in the snow until sometime in early July when it is usually plowed. Be sure to check that your 4WD is licensed because unlicensed vehicles are prohibited from the lower half of the South Side of the trail.

The trail's highest point is 13,114ft, and the best time to explore is between July and September. Although the Imogene Pass is also classified as dangerous, you may want to be careful as you maneuver the rocky, narrow, and steep slopes. Therefore, we propose that you opt for a 4WD and hire an experienced driver for safety purposes.

  • Location
  • The trail starts at Camp Bird road.
